Answers! (Two cents worth)

Answers to the questions asked related to my previous post:

From my faithful friend, Betty, who is the author of a wonderful blog, “A Bench With a View:

What would you tell Donald Trump if you had a private meeting with him?
I think I would tell him about how God changed my mind about him. And I would probably ask if I could pray for him.
Do you have a favorite Bible verse and why is it a favorite?
Oddly enough, no. I have several go-to verses, but my “favorite” changes when a verse touches me in a way it had not before.
Favorite worship song?
Like verses, it changes from time to time. Right now, it is “Living Hope.”

Do you take notes during sermons?
I used to take a lot of notes, but rarely went back to look at them. Now I don’t take many notes, but jot down a few things I want to remember. It seems that while I was doing all that note taking, I was missing a lot of what was said.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
In the spring and early summer, I love going to the Amish community about an hour away from my house. Eating…I love that, too. I also enjoy quiet, do-not-much weekends. (I added some Amish photos below.)
What advice do you have for people who have trouble sleeping?
Stop thinking about anything serious by 8 p.m. Turn off electronics and computers at least an hour before bedtime, and no electronics in bed either. Avoid caffeine after lunch. The best one: Memorize Scripture, and when you are awake in the nighttime hours, recite those verses in your head. Works so much better than counting sheep.

My sister Gina asks:

“You are in quest of truth…..what exactly is truth?”
It’s hard to find, that’s why I’m in quest of it!   Truth is vital, but we are surrounded by lies and deception, which has clouded minds and blackened hearts.   The truth I am in quest of is the truth brings freedom.  Truth exists, and it’s the knowing of it that brings freedom.  (John 8:32)
Christian scientists and secular scientists use the same data to bring us two completely different conclusions (as evidenced by creation vs evolution and young earth vs old earth).   Many people don’t realize how Christians have influenced science:  Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, Michael Faraday, Louis Pasteur, Mendel, Lister, Pascal…all Christians.   More recently, Dr. Raymond Damadian, who invented the MRI machine, is a Christian.  Here’s one that North Alabama may not realize:  the great rocket scientist, Wernher von Braun, was a “young earth” Christian.
Truth is not subjective, it is absolute, and cannot be confused with beliefs. If someone believes a lie, the liar is empowered, but the lie is still a lie.  If a person whole-heartedly believes a lie and goes to their grave with that belief, it is still a lie.  Deception doesn’t alter truth, but Truth enlightens deception.  Because we are all free to choose what we believe, it is of utmost importance that we carefully search out truth, which is why I am in quest of it!  Of course, all truth is centered in God…but not religion, which is man-made.
To get on my soapbox while I am on the subject of truth, we should always be careful to be truthful in what we say, in how we treat others, and even what we post on social media.  If you repost a meme or story that is not true, you are lying.  God hates lies.   You do have a responsibility to check out what you share.  Truth is important, don’t be a part of keeping it hidden by continuing to share lies.

My sister Cindy wonders:

If someone you loved was killed in front of you, but someone created a copy of them that was perfect right down to the atomic level, would they be the same person and would you love them just as much?
Hypothetically, of course, I think I’d be OCD enough to always know they were not my loved one. That doesn’t mean that I couldn’t love them, but I think it would probably be more painful than not, and I would have a hard time getting close to what I’d always consider just a copy.
If you could change your name, what would your new name be? Why would you choose that name?
Years ago, if I had been given an opportunity to change my name, I would have in a heartbeat! I mean, what young person wants to be named Margaret? Now, I’m fine with keeping my name. If I were to choose a new name today, it would be something like Marissa, just because I like the name. Back then…it would have been something like LaKaita DaVess. I’m a little glad I didn’t do that. lol
One last question, is a hot dog a sandwich?
Oh, no! Again, my OCD. A sandwich must be flat! I don’t even think of hamburgers as sandwiches.

Co-Worker Kathy’s question:

You take so many beautiful photos. What is your favorite subject to take photos of?
Nature. I was never good at shooting people. (I guess I should be careful how I word things these days!) I don’t think the Canon camera I have now takes the same quality of photo as the Kodak I used to have. Maybe I should invest a little time in learning more about the Canon’s features, or just invest $$$ in a new one.

My Beautiful niece, Bethany, inquires:

What have you always wanted to do but never have had the courage to do?
Be a motivational speaker…and to tell you the truth, I may do that yet!

My student worker, Molly, asks:

Why do you think church attendance has dropped off so much?
This is an important question. One reason is people are so wrapped up in the business of their lives, they don’t make the time for church. Laziness is also a reason. Deception is another…people don’t believe in God like they used to. They’ve gotten educated beyond their intelligence, or bought into the devil’s schemes to deceive them. Churches aren’t what they used to be, and people lose interest. Too often we find that “church” smells and looks like the world around them, so why bother? But the main reason, I believe, is the the loss of the fear of the Lord (which is the beginning of wisdom) and love that has waxed cold. God always has a remnant, and it is with this small group of people God performs His mighty works.

Kat C. wants to know:

Which version of the Bible do you use? Why?
My main version is New King James. When I am reading/studying the Bible, though, I like to have at least two versions at my fingertips (phones and Kindles make that easy). I like the Amplified pretty well. As far as “Why?” I like the way the NKJV reads…I don’t know how to explain it except maybe it touches more more when I read it.

Dana asks:

The democrat party is a lot different than it was when Hillary Clinton lost the election. Will the younger faces and new green ideas bring a win in the White House in 2020?
If they remain on “socialist green” path they are on, I believe they will ensure a Trump second term. And if they do remain on that path, it is my earnest prayer that Trump has a second term. (I fully believe he will be reelected regardless of that path the Democrats take.)

P.O.D. commented:

Do we really only have 12 years left?
We may have less than that, depending on when Jesus returns! But I am not a believer of the current global warming school of thought that has the world imploding in 12 years. Truth be told, none of us is promised tomorrow. It’s best to always be ready for eternity.

Thank you all for your questions! That was so much fun for me…I hope you enjoyed my two cents worth!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! I loved reading all the questions posed and your answers. I think Donald Trump\ would appreciate your praying for him. Thanks for the advice about insomnia too as I know you have the “occasional” sleepless night and I struggle with it at times.

This was fun to do! Do it again down the road! I’ll come up with a lot of questions again.
